Restoration and re-qualification of the ex-Bastanzetti factory

The idea is to maintain the whole, the identification of the functionally recognisable parts, the exclusion of some obvious additions, and its complete re-conversion based on functional density and its integration to some new modest additions. In the project the more authentic sections of the Foundry are completely maintained in order to preserve the unity of its external appearance in the treatment of the facades and, at the same time, a new addition is included, a great covering over the interior courtyard, ascribing to it a role as ‘urban space’, and projecting the “energy house” toward the outside. Not an ex-novo project, therefore, but a project for a ‘metamorphosis’, within a process of urban transformation, which assumes the features of a project of ‘permanent re-conversion’.
